the city

I came up with this pattern when looking at cities from above and how cities are divided into grids. This grid generally looks 2 dimensional from above. I found it fun and interesting to manipulate the grid pattern  to create this design. I have never done this kind of work beforee involving patterns and those kind of things so im looking forward to playing around with it a bit..

TUTORS

I met Des and Giordana today for the the second time and it was pretty helpful. They looked through my sketch book and liked a flowy pattern that twisted and turned and told me that this was a good thing to start with. Not too sure what im going to do with it yet but i was told to go around the city and look for other patterns and take photos for inspiration..

PROJECT

Well.. I was asked to strart a blog as part of my first year of art and design in LSAD so here it goes.. We were given a project in our first week of college titled "movement and motion". We were told that we would have 12 weeks to work on the project and that we were to develop ideas along the way.
The course sounded like alot of work and we were told that we would have to keep all different kinds of visual diaries.
Our first week was self initiated and we were told that we would be working completely on our own and that the tutors would not be giving us any help at all. This was pretty scary for me as I have just come from leaving cert and have never really worked like this before.
We picked our own studios and I started with a mind map first thing Monday morning. When I first thought of movent and motion I thought of the city and the constant movement that happens around the city every day and night. I thought that this would be a good place to start as the college is in Limerick city and it would be easy to get primary research.
